Alex Hales has refused to write off England’s chances in the upcoming ICC World Twenty in Bangladesh, insisting that the side are beginning to show signs of form at the perfect time.
Hales scored 38 in the final T20 international against the West Indies, and alongside fellow Outlaw Michael Lumb propelled England to victory over reigning champions in Barbados.
"I've had a bit of time in the middle during the last two games," he said.
"I probably didn't score at the strike-rate I wanted, but thought I did a good job.
"Watching Lumby in that last game, I think we rediscovered our good opening partnership at a key time for the team heading into the tournament.
"We couldn't have asked for better preparation, playing against the World T20 champions on wickets that were fairly spin friendly and replicate what we will face out here in Bangladesh."
England face the West Indies for a final time in preparation for the tournament proper, before a final warm up against India on Thursday.
With New Zealand their first opponents in the tournament proper, Hales insisted that the mood in the camp is a far cry from earlier in the winter.
"Coming into the competition with a win under our belts in the last game, everyone is confident and looking forward to it.
"A lot of T20 is based around momentum and, if you can get a couple of early wins, I still believe anyone can win this World Cup."
One of England’s chief concerns ahead of the tournament is the improving fitness of captain Stuart Broad, who is receiving treatment on a long-standing knee issue.
However, he is optimistic of being able to take part in the tournament’s competitive matches.
"With it only being four overs per game I'm confident I will be able to play a full part in this World Cup," he said.
"The soreness has gone. During the 12 hours in Dubai I managed to get a gym session so it seems to be progressing well. If it was a Test match tour it may be more concerning."
