Nottinghamshire’s Alice South, of Papplewick & Linby Cricket Club, has been nominated for a NatWest OSCA for her role as a young volunteer.

The Outstanding Service to Cricket Awards is entering its twelfth year, and BBC Radio 5 Live’s Jonathan Agnew will host the annual ceremony.

The NatWest OSCAs were established in 2003 to reward cricket’s unsung heroes and recognise the contributions and efforts of grassroots volunteers from all over England and Wales.

22-year-old Alice South has been involved in the recreational game since 2003, initially scoring before aiding the club over the past three years in increasing membership numbers at Papplewick & Linby CC.

“Alice is a special young lady who is a joy to have around,” said Stephanie Roberts, secretary at Papplewick & Linby CC.

“Among many things, she has built and maintained the Club website for the past 3 years, regularly adding new pictures and information, even taking a turn at preparing cricket teas when no one else volunteered.

“As a source of fundraising, she organised a sponsorship raffle again increasing financial support for the club.  For the Fixture books, she sold advertising, obtaining copy from a dozen people and companies and also collected these at short notice from the printers when no-one else could go.

“What makes all this so special?  Alice has done all this whilst studying for her Honours Degree in Mathematics.  Hopefully her studies have not suffered and she is expecting to graduate with a 2:1 this summer.  She has also found time for her hobby of synchronised swimming and working part-time as a life-guard.”
