Having seen his potential first days of first-class action this season hampered by rain, Luke Fletcher was upbeat about what his stint at Surrey will do for his game.

The Nottinghamshire seamer joined up with the club ahead of their game away at Northamptonshire and could go on to feature in three LV= County Championship matches in the next month.

And the 26-year-old believes the decision to go on loan, around the Outlaws’ NatWest T20 Blast matches, is one that will benefit both himself and Nottinghamshire.

“It is an opportunity for me to get some four-day cricket which is something I haven’t had so far this season,” Fletcher, who got 1-37 on his first day with Surrey, said.

“My aim is to find a bit of form for Surrey and put my name back in the hat for Nottinghamshire later on this year.

“It was easy decision for both parties as it made sense from mine and Notts’ point of view for me to go away and get some overs under my belt.”

Fletcher is likely to play in Surrey’s matches against Northamptonshire, currently ongoing, as well as fixtures against Kent and Glamorgan.

And the fast bowler admits that it has been weird adjusting to joining a dressing room with players he normally plays against.

“I was a bit nervous driving down to join the lads this week as it is a bit strange playing with the people you are normally trying so hard to beat,” he said.

“However, I did know quite a few of the lads and I have never had any issues with them so joining the dressing room wasn’t that hard.

“This gives me an opportunity to repeat what I know I can do and put in some good performances for Surrey in the four-day format.

“Rain has hampered the start of my stint here but I am looking forward to playing as much as I can over the next four weeks.”
