Wayne Noon is to leave Nottinghamshire to pursue his ambitions in elite coaching.
Noon, 45, signed for Notts as a wicket keeper from Northamptonshire in 1994 and went on to make 174 first team appearances for the Club in a career that lasted ten seasons.
As a player, Noon was capped in 1995 and awarded a benefit in 2003, the same year in which he was appointed Second XI Coach.
He progressed to the role of Assistant Coach, to Director of Cricket Mick Newell, a post he has held for more than a decade.
“This has been a big decision and not one that I have taken lightly,” said Noon.
“There have been many memorable moments at Notts, not least winning the County Championship in 2005 and 2010, and a Lord’s final in 2013.
“I have been fortunate to work with some of the best players in the world and take particular pride in developing talent at the club, such as Alex Hales who was brought in as a Second XI cricketer nine years ago and has gone on to represent England in all formats.
“Making a real difference to a player’s career is something I pride myself on and looking ahead, I hope this move will enable me to take on more responsibility in senior coaching roles.
“In the last 12 months I’ve worked with both the Sydney Thunder, who won BBL 05, and also the England one-day squad, which has further fuelled my ambitions.
“I’d like to make a special mention to Mick Newell – who signed me as a player and gave me my first coaching opportunity in 2002 – and to thank the Nottinghamshire public for their unwavering support. I wish the club every success in the future.”
Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell added: “It’s sad to see Wayne go because he’s achieved a lot with Notts, over a long period of time and he’s very well liked and respected here.
“We wish Wayne all the best for the future – and the most important thing is to thank him for the work he’s done here over the years.
“He was a very big part of our 2010 championship success, he’s had a positive influence on the careers of lots of players and I’m sure he’ll be very successful in the future, wherever that may be.”
