Chris Read’s side will already have a three-day fixture at Cambridge University under their belt, and Assistant Head Coach Paul Franks believes starting the season strongly is a key priority.

“You always target that first fixture,” he said. “Our biggest challenge is to make sure we hit the ground running and play well from day one.

“We’ve got some points to prove, so we don’t need anything extra to motivate our performance, but the fact that Leicestershire is on our doorstep is a good thing.

“We’ve not got as many changeovers between the varying formats that we’ve had in the past, which gives the lads the time to really focus on the competition that’s in hand.

“The aim is for that to lead to better performances and a better product for the spectators, in all formats of the game.”

Sussex are the visitors for the first home game of the season starting on Friday 21 April, before Notts Outlaws embark on an uninterrupted eight match Royal London One-Day Cup campaign.

Yorkshire, Durham and Lancashire are the visitors to Trent Bridge during this tournament, with the match against Leicestershire on Sunday 7 May taking place in the picturesque surroundings of Welbeck Cricket Club.

Trent Bridgians, meanwhile, can top up their fix for 50-over fixtures with an England Lions contest against South Africa A on Thursday 1 June, with free entry confirmed for Nottinghamshire Members.

The Royal London One-Day Cup knockout rounds commence in mid-June with the Lord’s final scheduled for Saturday 1 July.

By then, Gloucestershire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire will have visited Trent Bridge in the Championship, as well as a four-day game with a significant difference, against Kent starting Monday 26 June.

Nottinghamshire’s first clash with the men from the garden of England since 2013 will be played with a pink ball under floodlights, as will a number of other matches across the country at that time.

The NatWest T20 Blast will take place in the height of summer, with its seasonal debut at Trent Bridge further delayed by the small matter of an Investec Test match between England and South Africa beginning on Friday 14 July.

The wait will be over on the evening Friday 21 July as a local derby against the Derbyshire Falcons kicks off a weekend double-header, which continues against reigning champions, the Northamptonshire Steelbacks, the very next day.

The visit of the Worcestershire Rapids on Wednesday 26 July is handily placed on the day Nottinghamshire schools break for summer, with all remaining fixtures taking place during the holidays.

Yorkshire Vikings and Durham Jets are the visitors on Sunday 30 July and Saturday 5 August respectively, before the group stages conclude with back-to-back Friday nights against the Birmingham Bears and the Leicestershire Foxes.

Quarter-final fixtures get underway within four days of the regular rounds concluding and Finals Day is scheduled for Saturday 2 September.

The final home match of the campaign comes in the Championship against Worcestershire starting on Tuesday 5 September, before the curtain comes down on an action-packed summer with the Royal London One-Day International between England and the West Indies on Thursday 21 September.

For supporters that like to travel away, Notts will play 11 days of cricket across three formats in Leicester and Derby combined.
