Ant Botha has been appointed by Nottinghamshire as the Club’s new Assistant Coach.

Botha, who racked up 137 first-class, 149 List A and 72 Twenty20 appearances during a career that included lengthy spells with Derbyshire and Warwickshire, will primarily focus on running the Second XI and Academy sides.

The former all-rounder embarked upon a career in coaching after an elbow injury ended his playing career in 2011.

He coached Adelaide Cricket Club in the Australian summer of 2013/14 before joining Derbyshire where he served as Assistant Coach until August 2016.

The 40-year-old’s arrival continues a restructure that has already seen Peter Moores appointed as Head Coach and Paul Franks promoted to become his second in command.

Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell said: “Having taken the decision to make changes when we appointed Peter as Head Coach, the rest of our coaching team is now taking shape.

“Paul’s promotion left a gap running the seconds and the Academy team day-to-day during the season, so we knew we needed to bring someone in who we think can excel in that role.

“It’s a really important position because it’s where we bring our young players through and ready them for the first team.

“We’ve seen that in recent times with the development of Jake Ball, Luke Wood, Jake Libby and Brett Hutton – and that continues to be a big focus for us.

“We spoke to some impressive candidates and Ant was the best of them.

“Having played his early cricket in South Africa, had a long career in the county game and coached in Australia as well, Ant has a range of experiences that our young players in particular can benefit from.”
