Nottinghamshire and England’s Stuart Broad is excited by the new 100-ball competition that is set to be played in England from 2020 - with Trent Bridge one of the eight selected venues.
The new format has been discussed and supported by the ECB board and will be played in a five-week window in the middle of the summer.
The tournament will be promoted across broadcast partners, the BBC and Sky, and features men’s and women’s competitions.
“I love the fact that it’s different to all of the other tournaments worldwide,” said Broad.
“It’s got a unique selling point and a slightly shorter game is perfect for children and families.
“You’re stepping into the unknown tactically and that brings a lot of intrigue. Everything is brand new and that brings a lot of excitement.”
“I love the fact that it’s different to all of the other tournaments worldwide.” Stuart Broad.
Broad is pleased that the new tournament will not be divided up into blocks during the course of the season.
He said: “You get into a rhythm when a tournament is going and you can follow the your team and see players consistently on TV and at the grounds.
“I like the fact that it will finish in one block, rather than having a final at the end of the summer.”
Broad also believes that featuring players from both sexes will be beneficial for cricket’s appeal.
“I have been lucky enough to play in the Big Bash in Australia where the men’s and women’s teams are both hugely supported. We saw how much support there was for the Women’s World Cup Final last year and this can only help grow the game.”
