To say Samit Patel has been ever present during the Outlaws centenary of T20 wins would be an understatement.
The all-rounder has been a part of 96 out of the hundred wins and hasn’t missed a T20 victory since June 2013, scoring a total of 2,167 runs with 18 half centuries and taking 97 wickets in the process.
Patel also played a part in securing the 100th win last night (2 August), dismissing the destructive Calum Macleod in the first over of the Falcons innings, and the spinner was more than happy to put one over on the Outlaws' local rivals.
“It’s huge, to beat Derby in the 100th T20 game is massive,” he said.
“It’s a great win for our season to get it kick started again. We knew we had to win today and sometimes when we need to win we pull it out of the bag.
“Everyone was really up for today’s game and we knew how important it was so it’s brilliant to get a win.”
“As soon as the competition started I’ve been around, so it’s been great.”
Over the course of the 100 victories there have been a number of vital performances at Trent Bridge.
Looking back, Patel fondly remembers some of the Outlaws biggest wins on their home ground.
“We managed to squeeze Sussex here in a quarter-final [in 2010], that was pretty special,” he said.
“Somerset last year in a quarter-final again – you always look back to games here where we've squeezed teams.”
Patel made his T20 debut in the Outlaws’ final game of the competition’s inaugural year back in 2003 against Yorkshire at Headingley and he can remember the day well, even if it wasn’t an ideal start.
“It was on TV against Yorkshire and I was still at school,” he said.
“We lost and I only bowled one over that went for 26 and the first ball was a no ball so it didn’t go that well to be honest.”
