A recalled Jake Ball won his 17th One-Day International cap and Nottinghamshire team-mate Alex Hales hit 35 as England sealed a 4-1 series victory over Australia in Perth.
The tourists won by just 12 runs in an exciting contest that went down to the wire, but it underlines the strength of Eoin Morgan’s side in the 50-over format.
After Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first, England were well placed on 192-4, as Hales chipped in with a useful knock that came off 47 runs and contained three fours and one six.
However, the visiting side lost their last six wickets for 67 runs to be bowled out for 259 as Andrew Tye finished with 5-46.
Australia looked on course to reach their victory target of 260 when Marcus Stoinis’ 87 from 99 balls helped them to 189-4.
But Surrey’s Tom Curran produced a burst of 5-35 and Moeen Ali took 3-55 as England fought back superbly to bowl out Australia for 247. Ball finished with 0-58 off his 10 overs.
England now move on to the T20 Tri-series involving Australia and New Zealand, which will start, for them, on 7 February against Australia in Hobart.
