Nottinghamshire Women clinched fifth place in Division One of the T20 League after winning their final game of the season at Welbeck.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the hosts posted a highest score of the year of 162-5 from their 20 overs.

That was with the help of an excellent fourth wicket partnership of 107 between Georgie Boyce (74, 11 fours) and Lucy Higham (43 not out, six fours).

Jodie Dibble also chipped in with a run-a-ball 14, while Jessica Humby took 3-24 for the visitors.

In reply, Worcestershire got to 106-8 thanks in the main to Clare Boycott (28), Chloe Hill (21) and Victoria Hill (13 not out).

Jodie Dibble took 3-16, while Sophie Munro, Kirstie Gordon, Teresa Graves and Amy Gauvrit claimed one wicket each, with a final winning margin of 56 runs.

Notts had earlier lost their first game of the day against Sussex, who finished second in the table behind champions Middlesex.

As the south coast county batted first, the hosts were pleased to keep Sussex to 120 on a quick, scorched outfield as they took wickets at regular intervals.

Kirstie Gordon led the way with 2-20, while Jodie Dibble, Lucy Higham, Sophie Munro and a run out by Hannah Hughes accounted for the other wickets.

Notts stuttered to 106-9 in their reply as their innings lacked momentum, leading to defeat by 14 runs.

Georgie Boyce (26), Higham (23) and Yvonne Graves (13 not out) top scored as Georgia Adams (3-15) and Nancy Harman (3-23) were the pick of the Sussex bowlers.

Head Coach Martyn Kiel said: “After restricting Sussex to 120, it was frustrating not to be able to chase that down. A big score from one of our batters would have got us over the line, I believe.

“However, it was a great way to finish the T20 season against Worcestershire. When we have scored highly, it’s required someone to get a score and someone else to stick with them. Georgie’s knock showed what she is capable and, not the first time this year, Lucy has played the supporting role very well.”
