A brilliant 185 from Joey Evison put Nottinghamshire under 17s in firm command on day one of their three-day match with Staffordshire.
Batting at number three, the 16-year-old – who has played regularly for the Second XI and Academy sides this summer – hit a remarkable 30 fours and three sixes from 182 balls.
It helped his side rack up 480-6 before they declared and reduced their hosts to 30-2, as Ishraj Jandu and Jordan Cook each struck.
It was Notts who won the toss and chose to bat and they made good progress before Evison had even got to the wicket, with Sebastian Menzhausen (64) and Alex Winiarski (53) put on 111 for the first wicket.
After both openers had departed, Evison put on 39 with Callum Metcalf (17), 139 with Cook, who scored 72 off 89 balls with eight fours and three sixes, 74 with Archie Moore (31) and 75 with Bobby Chaudry (16 not out).
As soon as the free-scoring right-hander was finally dismissed, Notts called time on their innings, with Adam Peat having toiled his way through 19 overs to take 3-106. In fact, Staffordshire used no less than 10 bowlers in a bid to stem the visitors’ progress.
The home side had to face 10 tricky overs before the close and suffered two casualties as Jandhu bowled Isaac Foster for 20 and Cook had Brendan Lovatt stumped by Moore for eight.
