Durham will be hoping to make it two wins from two on the road when they visit Trent Bridge this evening (Tuesday July 17) to take on Notts Outlaws.

After amassing a total of 220 in their 18-run victory over Birmingham Bears on Sunday (July 15), thanks to an opening stand of 126 from Graham Clark and Tom Latham, the Jets will be looking for another good batting performance at a ground renowned for its high scores.

Former Outlaw Imran Tahir, who played for Notts in 2015, is a part of the Jets squad and has featured in all of the sides T20s so far this season, taking figures of 4-14 in Durham’s first win of the season against Leicestershire. 

The South African will be looking to replicate that performance against his former club. 

“It’s always nice to have a performance under your belt,” he said. 

“I’m a big believer in the team, but I’ve been given a role here to come and do something – that’s what I’m here for. 

“Personally, I want to do well because I’ve been given an opportunity and I do not want to take things for granted.”

Durham is the seventh county Tahir has played for in England, but he could have joined the North-East side long before this season. 

Many years ago, the spinner had an unsuccessful trial with the Jets but this time he has been welcomed with open arms by the county. 

“I didn’t know the people here, but they’ve been really nice and have welcomed me,” he said.

“I think the second good thing was the ground, which I knew before I came here was quite big for the spinner. It’s going to help a lot. 

“I did come to Durham a few years back when I was a young boy. I was young, and I didn’t have enough cricket behind me. They had a good team and it’s hard to get in anywhere. 

“It was one of those things, but I know the system and the city, it’s nice to be back again. 

“Playing as an overseas player in a T20 competition is a great honour.”

With the Jets currently sitting sixth in the table with two wins and two losses, the clash with Notts Outlaws could prove to be vital in their bid for qualification from the north group after finishing bottom of the table last season. 

They will be without Ben Stokes, who is on England duty, but face no new injury problems from their win over the Bears.
