Paul Coughlin added a brutal century to his earlier four-wicket haul as Nottinghamshire’s Second XI ended day three in the box seat against Worcestershire.
The all-rounder blazed 106 at better than a run a ball as the home side were bowled out for 302 at Lady Bay – a first innings lead of 128.
Two Jack Blatherwick wickets have pegged Worcestershire back to 96-3 in their second innings in response.
Commencing the opening day on 42-1 in reply to Worcestershire’s 174 all out, Liam Patterson-White posted a 78-ball fifty as his second wicket stand with Ben Slater (45) reached 105.
Slater was caught behind off Matt Davis and was swiftly followed back to the pavilion by Ben Compton, who was stumped for 16 off the bowling of Josh Breed.
Coughlin, who arrived at the crease with the score on 156-3, raced passed 50 in just 44 balls – and 23 balls later he was celebrating a remarkable hundred.
Patterson-White fell three runs shy of joining his partner on three-figures, falling lbw to Joe Leach with Notts 288-4.
The resumption following the second of three rain delays initiated a Nottinghamshire collapse as seven wickets fell for just 12 runs.
Coughlin was seventh man out for 106, caught at point off the bowling of Josh Tongue (3-76) having faced 84 deliveries with four sixes and 13 fours.
If Worcestershire scented a route back into the game, Jack Blatherwick was in no mood to extend a lifeline, as the Academy graduate snared the wickets of Ollie Westbury (4) and Josh Dell (11), reducing the West Midlanders to 51-2.
Zak Chappell (31) had George Rhodes caught in the slips as Worcestershire closed on 96-3, still trailing by 32.
