Jonny Bairstow has attributed his success in England’s rain-reduced T20 series decider against New Zealand to his experience of T10 cricket.
Bairstow hit 47 off 18 balls to propel England towards a super-over victory in Auckland which secured a 3-2 series win.
The right-hander smashed a world-record 84 from 24 balls in last year’s T10 League – a competition in which Harry Gurney, Samit Patel and Tom Moores will compete this month – and he feels the experience proved priceless in the eleven-overs-per-side encounter.
"It was pretty imposing to try and chase down 147," he said.
"But a lot of the guys played in the T10 last year and said, 'look, we're not far off here - if we can get within striking distance with the small boundaries, we've got a chance'.
"I don't feel like I've potentially scored as many as I wanted during the series, so to contribute in a shortened game was pleasing."
Sunday’s Super Over victory was the second tie-break triumph for England over the Blackcaps in recent months, after July’s thrilling World Cup final win.
Skipper Eoin Morgan feels his side are benefitting from the continued exposure to high-pressure situations.
"I don't think either side minds a bit of extra time or a Super Over. It makes for great entertainment," he said.
"It's brilliant to play in big-pressure situations, but we're glad we came out the other side.
"The Blackcaps played well again, they bowled really well, and there was nothing between the sides for the 11-over game.
“And then in the Super Over, I thought the standout was Chris Jordan [who bowled England's over and conceded only eight] – a guy who's extremely calm under pressure and delivers."
Jordan has become a mainstay of England’s T20 setup in recent years, having chalked up 43 international appearances in the format.
But Morgan feels the half-dozen debutants in the New Zealand series – including Tom Banton, Lewis Gregory and Matt Parkinson – have proved they have what it takes to perform at the highest level.
"It creates a really good headache for us when it comes to selection," he said.
"We are further ahead than we thought and the guys on this tour who will probably miss out on South Africa have raised that benchmark for guys who come back in.
"They are now almost expected to score runs and expected to do well because of opportunities given and taken by these guys."
