Harry Gurney is keen to add The Hundred to his growing tally of major white-ball titles this summer as he prepares to represent Trent Rockets.

The Outlaws seamer has amassed eight limited-overs titles around the globe in a storied career, and admits he is driven by a desire to complete the set.

“I want to win The Hundred and the IPL, because then in my book I’ve won all the major competitions,” he said.

“That’s certainly the aspiration, and I think we’ve got the squad to do that.

“Every team is strong, which is what you tend to get with a draft system, and there are some really well-balanced sides.

“There’s certainly a palpable excitement around the world for The Hundred, and for the chance to play with and against the best players in some great grounds and exciting cities.”

Gurney encountered three of his fellow Trent Rockets during his winter with Melbourne Renegades in the BBL – and he was impressed by the trio’s exploits down under.

“It goes without saying that he’s a player of quality. He had a pretty good time of it in South Africa [in the Mzansi Super League] when Durban Heat were able to get on the field between the rain, then went over to Australia and did exactly what you’d hope an overseas player will do, which is help to carry his team to the latter stages of the competition.

“I’ve seen him be so destructive over the years, and was lucky to get him out in the BBL this year [for Renegades against Sydney Thunder]. It was right in the slot for him, but it just went straight down midwicket’s throat. I’m sure I’ll be reminding him of it at some point in the season!”

“We got a glimpse of his ability at Trent Bridge last year when he got a few for Durham [hitting 36 from 25 balls], but he can bowl some useful left-arm spin as well and is quite a gritty character.

“I think any batsman who comes to Trent Bridge in white-ball cricket licks their lips, so I can’t wait to see him out there smacking a few into the stands.”

“T20 is always evolving, and you’re seeing more and more spin being bowled around the world at the minute. There was a BBL game recently where spinners bowled 15 of the 20 overs in the innings. But if you look at the strike-rates of top batsmen around the world, it makes sense.

“Batters often have lower strike-rates against spin than seam, so spin is certainly going to be a factor in The Hundred - and what a spinner Rashid Khan is to have in your setup!

“He’s not only the best bowler in the world, he’s also an unbelievably athletic fielder and very dangerous batsman who’s more than capable of getting 40 off 15 at the end of a game.”
