Three Nottinghamshire-based teams have claimed title success in this year’s East Midlands Women’s Cricket League.
In its second year of existence, the EMWCL caters for all abilities, traversing three formats (soft ball pairs, ‘Super 8s’ hard ball pairs, and traditional long format hard ball) and providing opportunities aplenty from regional performers to cricket novices across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.
Caythorpe emerged victorious in Division 1 of the traditional format with Gedling Colliery finishing second, meanwhile Blyth finished runners up in Division 2.
In the Super 8s, Caythorpe won Division 1 and Plumtree won Division 2 North.
Retford and Ordsall Bridon both made it to Finals Day of the softball competition, with the former progressing all the way to the final before being beaten by Belper Amateurs.
Graham Redfern, Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club’s Women and Girls Officer praised the efforts of all players.
He said: “Congratulations must go to all those at the various Nottinghamshire clubs who have taken part in the league, regardless of their results.
“We are seeing the competition go from strength to strength, both in terms of the numbers of players participating and the standard of the cricket itself, and that is pleasing to see.
“As a county and a collective, it is brilliant that there is an offer which can cater for a wide range of abilities, and it represents an opportunity for those who may be inspired by the increased focus on the women’s game currently to get involved.
“Our focus continues to be on providing a pathway in for game for all women and girls, regardless of their age and prior experience or how far they wish to progress in the game. The EMWCL is at the core of our efforts in that respect, and our thanks must go to those who make the smooth running of the league possible.”
