Nottinghamshire fell to defeat against Worcestershire on the third day of their LV= Insurance County Championship clash at New Road, but retain pole position for a top-two finish heading into the final round of Division Two matches.
Resuming on 129/6 and requiring another 133 runs to make the hosts bat again, Notts were ultimately dismissed for 183 to confirm a loss by an innings and 79 runs.
Having begun day three under cloud cover, the early dismissal of Tom Moores, caught by Brett D’Oliveira off Dillon Pennington for 22, precipitated what was to come.
Liam Patterson-White was pinned lbw by Pennington, and though Brett Hutton and Jake Ball temporarily dug in with a stand of 40, the loss of the latter brought the conclusion closer.
Ball was caught behind by Gareth Roderick for 20, before last man Dane Paterson suffered the same fate as Worcestershire became only the second side to defeat the Green and Golds in First-Class cricket this year.
Nottinghamshire do retain their status as Division Two leaders, however, and will remain at least nine points clear at the summit heading into their final game of the season, against Durham at Trent Bridge on Monday.
