Fateh Singh’s lower-order fifty lifted the Seconds to a respectable first innings score on a rain-affected opening day versus Durham at Lady Bay.

Having fell to 161-7 either side of a protracted rain delay, the 18-year-old hit 13 boundaries and two sixes in a 60-ball 76, to lift Nottinghamshire to 253 all out.

In their penultimate Championship fixture of the summer, the Green and Golds were invited to bat first earlier in the day, advancing to 71-0 inside the first 17 overs.

However, Ben Martindale and Dane Schadendorf’s opening stand was broken as the former was caught behind for 34.

Schadendorf (37) followed soon after, also falling caught behind, but Calvin Harrison (25) and Sammy King (34) advanced the Notts score beyond 100 as lunch came and went.

Both failed to kick on however, departing at the hands of Luke Doneathy, before Academy all-rounder Sam Seecharan, on his Second XI Championship debut, could only add one to the total.

Tom Loten (8) and Travis Holland (1) both followed soon after, before Singh took a liking to the visiting attack, first adding 58 with James Hayes (15).

The young all-rounder wasn’t done there however, adding 34 runs off his own blade for the final wicket before being stumped for 76.
