Sarah Glenn has praised the stand-up-and-be-counted attitude of her Blaze teammates ahead of the Charlotte Edwards Cup final at New Road on Saturday.
The leg-spinner has returned from England training camp to be with the East Midlands outfit in Worcester.
She has taken five wickets across the competition, and has the second best economy rate of wicket takers across the tournament - 4.93.
But whilst she is pleased with her personal efforts, it is the contributions across the board, and their ability to perform under pressure, that has given her reason to believe heading into the final.
“I think the difference is that in every game we’ve won it’s not always been one hundred percent from us,” she said.
“Some of the games have been really scrappy, but in every game, someone has stepped up.
“Whether it be with the bat or the ball or in the field, I think it’s really special to see that it’s not the same people performing each week.
“It’s always someone different which is really nice going into finals day. Anything can happen and so I feel like everyone is equally prepared.”
“I definitely think it's been a case of growing together as a team because we’ve learnt more about one another and how we work as individuals.
“Obviously, it’s been a pretty hectic schedule for this part of the year, and on some of the days we’ve been quite tired or a bit stressed.
“But I think we’ve learnt how to deal with each other when we’re under pressure which is, again, another good thing to have going into a finals day. There’s going to be a lot of that and so hopefully we can keep that up”.
Glenn also credited the impact of new Spin Bowling Lead Laura Marsh who, in her first season in the East Midlands, has overseen the development of The Blaze’s spin contingent, including Kirstie Gordon, Lucy Higham and Joise Groves.
Her impact and the handling of playing coming in and out of the dressing room has had a large role to play in the Blaze’s success this season.
“As a spinner, I think Marshy has been brilliant. We’ve kept communications up and I think that’s the thing that has been special about this season.
“Staff and players have been in and out of the setup, but it's not really fazed us and we’ve been really good at saying where we are all at.
“I think that’s the nice feeling within the group, we know that everyone is going to give one hundred percent and contribute even if they’re not there physically.
“I also think in general we’ve been humble as well, both the players and coaching group. Even though we’ve been doing well we’re trying to be ruthless in reviewing every game and just resetting for when the next one comes around.”
That next one will, for The Blaze, be one of Southern Vipers or Thunder, who will play in the Finals Day eliminator for the right to play against first place from the group stages.
The triumphant side in the second game of the day will be crowned Charlotte Edwards Cup winners for 2023.
