Somerset moved firmly into the ascendancy on day two of their Vitality County Championship clash with Nottinghamshire at Taunton.
Resuming on 116/1 in their first innings, the hosts lost three wickets in the morning session as Notts began to chip away at the top order, Luke Fletcher receiving just rewards for his accuracy.
But an eight-wicket stand of 68, and a ninth-wicket partnership of 139, shifted the momentum into Somerset’s favour, despite another four-wicket showing from Calvin Harrison.
At stumps, Notts were 38/1 in their second innings.
Earlier, Fletcher had made the breakthrough when half-centurion Sean Dickson was well-held by a tumbling Jack Haynes, with Tom Lammonby (17) pinned by Brett Hutton and Lewis Goldsworthy (3) only able to edge Lyndon James behind.
Josh Davey’s defiant knock as nightwatchman was ended after the interval, bowled through the gate by Calvin Harrison.
But it was Somerset number six Tom Banton who would enjoy the better of the next exchanges, reaching 83 before Dane Paterson’s return with the new ball saw him caught by substitute Liam Patterson-White.
While James Rew and Lewis Gregory barely troubled the scorers, Craig Overton and Migael Pretorious formed a formidable partnership for the ninth wicket.
Their increasingly expansive strokeplay took Somerset past 450 – albeit a little too late to register full batting bonus points – before Pretorious was bowled by Matthew Montgomery and Shoaib Bashir departed for a duck, leaving Overton stranded five short of a century.
In reply, Ben Slater was well caught by a scampering Sean Dickson to leave Notts 8/1, before Haseeb Hameed and Will Young saw Notts to stumps.
