Peter Moores praised Outlaws new and old for their contributions in Notts’ recent upturn in T20 fortunes.
The Head Coach has named a squad with Sammy King included in the place of Ben Duckett, who joins England’s Test team for their upcoming series against West Indies.
Moores first talked up the contributions of captain Joe Clarke who struck a 41-ball 79 against Leicestershire Foxes before rain took hold at Trent Bridge.
The innings followed his game-saving ton against Lancashire at Southport, displaying the 28-year-old’s versatility.
“Joe has matured into a really accomplished player and you see that in the transition across formats,” Moores said.
“In one net he’s back into the swing of things and knows what he's doing. He is a really valuable player for us.
“What I have seen from him is that with runs or without runs, it hasn’t changed his captaincy. He leads by example.
“He has impressed me and his teammates with his calmness. We’ve been in some tough situations and he has never looked flustered and made good tactical decisions.”
At the other end of the spectrum is Liam Patterson-White, whose T20 career as an Outlaw is only a handful of games old.
But the all-rounder has shone with both bat and ball in his brief stint thus far - including 26 from 15 against the Foxes - reaffirming Moores’ belief that players will be provided a chance.
“We work so hard with the players because we know their time will come, and we tell them that,” he said.
“Quite rightly they’re impatient for it, but when they get it and take it, it is so pleasing. The way Liam responded to that tough over against Derbyshire with three really good overs - he didn’t lose focus at all.
“Last night was a significant innings too because it backed up what he did last time. He had to get straight out the blocks, be clever and hit his shots well.
Moores also highlighted the game-by-game approach Notts will take across the next five games.
He spoke of the need to continue the momentum accrued over the last four games, during which Notts have picked up two wins and suffered two abandoned games.
“The last four games, we have got the equivalent of three wins points wise - that’s the way you need to look at it.
“We have played good cricket and become far more consistent. We have gone back to a shape we have used before with an extra batter, and it is working for us.
“Crucially, the lads are feeling more confident. The players are growing into it and really getting their teeth stuck in, so we have to try to continue that one game at a time.”
