Lyndon James feels Notts Outlaws need to remain steadfast in their self-belief as they seek victory at Leicester in the Vitality Blast.
The homegrown all-rounder is part of an unchanged 14-man squad for the trip to the Uptonsteel County Ground (Sunday 14 July, 2.30pm).
James recorded career-best T20 figures with the ball as the Outlaws were defeated in Durham, and he believes the side need to retain faith in their ability as they seek consistency.
"We have got to keep believing," he said.
"We are quite inexperienced, but we have shown glimpses of what we can do; it’s about making that as consistent as possible.
"If we are all putting the work on, we can’t ask much more.
"I know everyone is frustrated, the supporters and ourselves, but at the end of the day, if we keep working it’ll pay us back."
A new-look Notts have tasted victory twice so far this season, as the likes of Academy graduates Ben Martindale and Liam Patterson-White have progressed into the first team, with James among those becoming a Blast ever-present for the first time.
"We are quite inexperienced transitioning from what has been a successful side, with people moving on," he said.
"Ultimately we want that transition to be plain sailing, but a lot of us are still learning about how our T20 game looks at this level and what our roles are in this side.
"Cricket is a tough game when it is not going your way as a batter, a couple of low scores and the frustration builds, but you have to almost relax and not try too hard. You have to go back to the things that have served you well over time.
"Everyone wishes you could master it and belt it every game, but it isn’t that simple."
James took 3/31 in the North East, seeing off Alex Lees, Ollie Robinson and Bas de Leede as the hosts amassed 160/6 from their 20 overs.
And despite the contest ending in defeat, the all-rounder feels lessons can be learned.
"As long as we learn from every game as a batter, bowler or fielder, that’s important," he said.
"We need to take it forward and work hard in the nets and at some point that will pay us back.
"Hopefully that is on Sunday and if not then next week, but we have to keep building."
