Nottingham-born triple World Cup winner Jenny Gunn has retired from professional cricket at the age of 36.
The all-rounder played in England's 50-over and T20 triumphs under Charlotte Edwards in 2009 and was in the side that beat India by nine runs at Lord's in 2017 to lift the World Cup for a second time.
Jenny was vice-captain of the England side that beat Australia in the female version of the Ashes in 2013 and again in 2013-14. She was awarded an MBE in the 2014 Birthday Honours for services to cricket.
In 2006, Jenny Gunn was Player of the ODI Series against India and in other international series was Player of the Match on eleven occasions between 2003 and 2014.
Although she shares a name with one of the most illustrious cricketing families in the county, Jenny’s family sporting ties are with our near neighbours. The daughter of Bryn Gunn – a member of Nottingham Forest's European Cup-winning side in 1980 – Jenny enjoyed football as well as cricket as a youngster but eventually chose the summer game and was the first girl to be accepted into the Notts Academy.
In the event, Jenny Gunn played more than one hundred games for Notts in List-A and T20 cricket, making her career best score of 142no v Somerset Women in 2012 at Newark.
She also played for Loughborough Lightning during her career, as well for Warwickshire and Yorkshire in county cricket.
In total, Gunn played 259 games for England across all formats (only Stuart Broad has played more for England amongst Nottinghamshire cricketers), taking 240 wickets and scoring 2,632 runs, including seven half-centuries, before retiring from international cricket in 2019.
For all her stellar career, Jenny only played once at Trent Bridge – for Loughborough Lightning against Lancashire Thunder in the Kia Super League.
Across all formats, Jenny Gunn has scored more than 8,500 runs and taken over 500 wickets; she retires as one of the most successful and most decorated cricketers of modern times.
Her last professional game was for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred on 31 August 2022 when she made 15no and, in a nice touch of symmetry, took 1-15 in a victory over Southern Braves.
