The son of William Shrewsbury, and nephew of his more illustrious namesake, Arthur Shrewsbury junior, made his First-Class debut for Nottinghamshire v Sussex at Hove in July 1892.
He was just 18, born in Nottingham on 4 July 1874, and the favourable impression he made, whilst adding 64 for the 10th wicket with Mordecai Sherwin, seemed to foreshow a promising career. In fact his matches for Nottinghamshire were limited to three, all in 1892.
In each of those, he joined his more illustrious name-sake on the scorecard - indeed, on debut he outscored the elder Arthur in the Notts first innings. In his final game, for Nottingham Castle v MCC at Lord's, his father William was also in the team though they did not bat together.
Arthur junior made just 63 runs in all, with a top score of 31no, made on debut against Sussex. His batting average is a healthy-looking 31.50, boosted by the fact that in five innings he was 'not out' twice. He was described as a useful medium pace bowler, capital bat and slip field.
His name is rarely found in local matches and as far as could be discovered he had no professional engagements, so his cricket career seems to have been very brief.
Arthur Shrewsbury junior died on 6 October 1917.
