A firm fixture in South Africa’s Test side, Ashwell Prince was called in to fill the overseas slot with Nottinghamshire after a move for VVS Laxman was vetoed by the BCCI.
A central figure in the nPower Test Series against England in 2008, Prince scored a memorable 149 against England at Headingley.
Born in Port Elizabeth, the 31 year-old first came to the attention of the national selectors when he was named Western Province player of the year in 2001.
He made his Test debut against Australia in 2002 and captained South Africa in their tour of Sri Lanka in 2006.
A left-handed middle order batsman and a solid fielder, Prince made his Notts debut in the NatWest Pro40 defeat against Durham in August.
Prince played 4 First-Class games for Nottinghamshire, scoring 123 runs at an average of 30.75. He also played 4 one day games scoring 63 runs at an average of 15.75. In his career he made 18,484 First-Class runs at 44.43 with a top score of 261; his best test score was 162no made against Bangladesh. Prince played in 52 ODIs and just one international T20 (making only 5).
Ashwell Prince was capped by both Nottinghamshire (2008) and Lancashire (2010) and was South African Cricketer of the Year in 2006.
