Chappell Batchelor, baptised in Southwell on 1 July 1822, was a member of the Nottinghamshire County Club based at Southwell and of Southwell CC in recorded matches from 1844 to 1854.
He played in three genuine Notts matches, the first being v Kent at Canterbury in 1845, when he deputised for the injured Jonas Warwick and the last being v Surrey at The Oval in 1858, when Notts had four regulars absent. His other First-Class match was for the Gentlemen of Southwell v England in 1846 when Alfred Mynn, guesting for Southwell, took eight England wickets in their only completed innings.
Although Batchelor got a 'pair' in that game, he was a more than average batsman and in 1847 hit 93 for the County Club v Rugby, having made 51 v Grantham in 1844.
He was an organist by professional in Southwell, but died in Derby on 11 January 1884.
