Charles Jarvis was the elder of the two Jarvis brothers that played for Nottingham before the foundation of the county side. Born on 11 November 1792, he played in one First-Class game, when he and his brother George represented Nottingham against a combined Sheffield and Leicester at Sheffield in July 1826. Charles made 3 and 13 but was on the losing side by the considerable margin of an innings and 203 runs; George did rather better, scoring 20 and 14 and taking one wicket.
He also played for the XXII of Nottingham v England in 1818, making 13 in his only innings, and for the Nottingham Old Club v Leicester in 1821, scoring 1 and 0 in another heavy innings defeat.
Charles Jarvis died in Radford in October 1855.
