Born on 6 October 1979 in Gateshead, Christopher Jon Hewison is a right-hand batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler who was educated at Whickham School. He represented Durham at Junior levels and also made seven appearances for England Under-17s.
He played for Durham Seconds from 1997 to 1999 and played regularly for Notts Seconds in 2000. On 6 September 2000 he was playing for the Seconds on the Boots Ground when John Morris reported an injury just prior to the Championship game v Glamorgan at Trent Bridge. Hewison was hurriedly dispatched across the road for his Notts First-Class debut. He scored 24 and 6, but spectators were mightily impressed by his fielding - he held five catches. Hewison joined the full-time playing staff for 2001. He scored the most runs for the Seconds in 2001, but could not convert fifties into tons. He made his second and final first-team appearance in the Norwich Union 45-over League v Somerset at Taunton on 8 July 2001, scoring a composed 20 off 24 balls as Notts won by three wickets. He left the Notts staff at the end of the season. He played 30 Championship and 14 Trophy games for Notts Seconds scoring 1,423 championship runs @31.26 with a highest score of 98 not out v Somerset Seconds at Taunton in 2000.
He played a further four List-A games, all in NatWest/Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy for Durham Cricket Board (1999) and Northumberland (2002 and 2003). In five List-A games he scored 109 runs @21.80 with a top score of 69 for Northumberland v Yorkshire Cricket Board at Jesmond in 2002. He played for Northumberland from 2002 to 2006, mostly in limited-overs cricket, appearing only once (2005) in the Minor Counties Championship.
He has played club cricket for Burnopfield, South Northumberland CC (2000, 2002-2011 and 2019), Clifton Village CC (2001) in the Notts Premier League and Swalwell CC (2012 to 2018). He has also represented British Police in 2004 opening the batting with former Notts all-rounder David Fraser-Darling.
His father Neil Hewison made one Minor County Championship appearance for Durham in 1975.
