Daniel Bottom made a promising debut for Notts, bowling unchanged throughout the first innings of Derbyshire and returning figures of 5-34; the match was played at Trent Bridge on 19 and 20 June 1899. He was then selected for the two following Notts matches but achieved little and did not represent the County again. In three First-Class matches for Notts, he scored 22 runs @4.40 and took eight wickets @23.50.
Born in Whitwell, Derbyshire on 2 October 1864, Bottom began his career in county cricket with Derbyshire in 1891, not then a First-Class team, playing Notts at Trent Bridge. In 1893 he played a further three games for Derbyshire. His First-Class debut came for Derbyshire v Leicestershire at Leicester in August 1894 but his next was not until 1898. After his trial for Notts, Bottom returned to the Derbyshire side in August 1901 against Notts at Welbeck Abbey. One of the Derby players failed to turn up and Bottom, who at the time kept the Greyhound Inn at Mansfield Woodhouse, was included as an amateur in the Derbyshire eleven. In total he played six First-Class matches, scoring 42 runs @4.20 and taking nine wickets @27.77. Bottom later became the landlord at the Greendale Oak in Cuckney.
Bottom, a right-hand bat and right arm medium pacer, was for some years professional with Mansfield Woodhouse CC; he died in the City Hospital, Nottingham on 16 February 1937, aged 73 years.
