Callum David Fraser-Darling was born in Sheffield on 30 September 1963. He enjoyed a promising school cricket career at Edinburgh Academy and played his first match for the Notts Second Eleven in 1981. Described in the Club’s 1995 Yearbook as a ‘powerful new ball bowler and a hard hitting batsman’, Fraser-Darling was a regular in in the Seconds in 1984 and made his First-Class debut for Nottinghamshire against Cambridge University in June 1984.
He made his first County Championship appearance in July 1985 for Notts against Warwickshire at Nuneaton. He played occasionally in the following two seasons, with a final First-Class appearance against Oxford University being his only match in 1988.
A career highpoint came in the away fixture with Northamptonshire in August 1986 when he recorded both his highest First-Class score of 61 and posted his best bowling figures of 5-84. In total, his 11 matches for the County yielded 242 runs and 17 wickets.
Fraser-Darling played in 16 List-A matches for Nottinghamshire between 1985 and 1988. He scored 60 runs and took 18 wickets in these games, with his best bowling coming in his final short form outing when he took 3-23 against Surrey at Trent Bridge in August 1988.
At the end of 1988, David Fraser-Darling left County cricket and became a Police Officer. He subsequently enjoyed a long playing career with the British Police Cricket Club and also served as the Club’s secretary and treasurer.
