Born in Ilkeston on 18 October 1866, George Henry Chambers was a left-arm fast bowler, who first came to notice playing for Digby Colliery CC in 1895. He took a professional engagement at Leek half-way through the 1896 season which continued into 1897 and without any Colts trials made his First-Class debut for Notts v Sussex at Trent Bridge in August 1896. He scored 7 not out and 16 and bowled 0-37. He had to wait until 1899 before reappearing for Notts v Yorkshire at Bradford, taking the place of Tom Wass who was ill. He took five wickets in the match including 3-44 in the second innings. His third and final First-Class game was in the same summer at Derby. He scored 25 runs @12.50 and took six wickets @39.16. In 1899 and 1900 he was engaged by Fenton CC, but in 1901 returned to play for Digby Colliery CC. He died aged 60 years in New Awsworth on 15 June 1927.
His namesake, George Henry Chambers from Kimberley, who played four games for Notts between 1903 and 1905, was a second cousin of this George, as were the Burrows brothers - Arthur Dixon Burrows (one First-Class game for Notts in 1887) and Robert Dixon Burrows (277 First-Class games for Worcestershire 1899-1919).
