Born 25 January 1919 in West Bridgford, George Arthur Walker was a right-arm fast-medium bowler and right-hand bat who joined the Notts staff at the age of 16 in 1935. In 1937 he was easily the best bowler, with a return of 4 for 76, for Notts Seconds in a high scoring match versus Derbyshire. He played in two championship games in 1937 versus Yorkshire at Headingley (where he strained his groin muscle after 11 overs) in June and versus Lancashire at Trent Bridge in August when he replaced Bill Voce in the eleven. He achieved little, taking one wicket for 176 and scoring 24 runs in four innings with three not outs. His contract still had a year to run, but was terminated by mutual agreement at the end of that summer. He subsequently joined the City Police force. Also a useful soccer player, he played in the forward line for Forest reserves and later for West Ham United and Lincoln City.
George Walker was for many years employed in the ambulance service in Cleethorpes and then emigrated to Australia. He died in Bridlington, Yorkshire on 31 August 1995, aged 76.
