Born in Lincoln on 12 September 1975, Ian Riches was a left-hand fast-medium bowler and right-hand batsman. Educated at Ancaster High School, he gained a Sports and Exercise degree from the University of Bedfordshire in Luton. He represented Midlands Schools in 1990 and Lincolnshire at Under-17 and Under-19 level.
His played two matches for Lincolnshire in the Minor Counties Championship in 1994, taking three wickets @25.33. In addition, Riches played 21 matches for Notts Colts in the Bassetlaw League taking 27 wickets @16.33. This impressed the Notts hierarchy and Riches joined the Notts playing staff on a summer contract for the 1995 season whilst studying at University.
He played four times for Notts Seconds in the Second Eleven Championship, in his last outing he had figures of 6-44 v Worcestershire Seconds. This performance was enough for him to be selected the following weekend in Notts’ last AXA Equity and Law 40-over League fixture of the season at the Riverside, Chester-le-Street on 17 September 1995. Riches coming on as first change bowled 3-0-21-0, he did not bat as Notts won by two wickets off the very last ball of the match.
Injury restricted him to six Second XI games in 1996 and no appearances in 1997 and he left the Notts staff at the end of that season.
He is currently resides in Biggleswade in Bedfordshire and is a Director of a Health Club and Spa in Stevenage.
