Pace bowler Jack Blatherwick signed his first professional contract with Nottinghamshire at the end of the 2018 season. A product of the County’s Academy, he achieved England Under-19 honours in 2017 and first played senior cricket in May 2018.
Born in Nottingham on 4 June 1998, Jack Morgan Blatherwick attended Holgate Academy in Hucknall and Central College, Nottingham. He played for the County Under-13s in 2011 and progressed through the age-group system, and in Nottinghamshire Premier League cricket, to his Second Eleven debut in 2016. He toured India with England Under-19s in the winter of 2016/17 and featured in four One-Day Internationals. In the English summer that followed, he played a further two One-Dayers and an Under-19 Test when India visited these shores.
Blatherwick’s first full Nottinghamshire call-up came on Spring Bank Holiday Monday 2018 in front of a Trent Bridge crowd of 14,357 on the Club’s Family Fun Day. He had little opportunity to shine, bowling just two overs and finishing with 3 not out as Notts went down in the Royal London One-Day Cup match against Warwickshire. Retained for the next match against Worcestershire, Blatherwick was on the winning side this time but was not called on to bowl. So far, these are Blatherwick’s only two appearances in List-A cricket for Notts, although he did ‘guest’ for Northamptonshire in June 2019 in a tour match against a strong Australia A side.
In September 2019, Blatherwick made his First-Class debut for Nottinghamshire against Warwickshire at Trent Bridge. He took the wicket of Matthew Lamb in that game and then dismissed Surrey’s Ben Foakes when he stayed in the side for the next Championship fixture at The Oval.
Jack Blatherwick did not play any first team games in the Bob Willis Trophy in 2020 and was released by the county at the end of that season; he was signed by Lancashire and in 2023 represented his new county in all three main formats.
