Born in Nottingham on 22 December 1904. John Reddish, usually known as ‘Jack’, was a right-hand bat and leg-break bowler. He joined the Trent Bridge staff in 1927, whilst playing for Boots Athletic CC. He played in a few games for Notts Seconds in 1927, 1928 and 1929, but with little success, then in 1930 he showed a marked improvement, hitting an unbeaten fifty and taking 25 wickets @14.20. This led to his sole First-Class match for Notts v Oxford University at Trent Bridge in June 1930. He scored 2 not out and failed to take a wicket while conceding 125 runs. His cricket for the Second Eleven in 1931 was no more successful and he left the staff at the end of that season.
He subsequently went to Guernsey, where he was employed as the PE master at Elizabeth College, and later moved to Buxton; he died in Manchester on 18 October 1989, aged 84.
Jack Reddish was much better known as a soccer player. He appeared as a full back for Tottenham Hotspur (1922-1930) and Lincoln City, being captain of the latter from 1930 to 1933.
