JACOB DUFFY

New Zealand international Jacob Duffy joined Nottinghamshire on a short term deal for the final two matches of the 2024 County Championship.

Injuries, England calls and Dane Paterson’s extended paternity leave had left the Club with limited bowling resources for the crucial stage of the battle to retain Division One status.  The arrival of Duffy was an expedient response.

Otago seamer Duffy arrived at Trent Bridge with almost 300 First-Class wickets to his name in a career spanning 12 years, and with 20 international caps in limited overs cricket.

He made his Notts debut against Kent at Canterbury, having played briefly for Kent in 2022, and took six wickets across the two games he played, his best return being 4-60 in the second innings of that Canterbury match to help Nottinghamshire to a vital win.

The Blackcaps had previously recognised Duffy’s suitability to English conditions, twice selecting him for Test tours against the Three Lions (though he has yet to make a Test appearance) as well as the ICC World Test Championship final at Lord’s in 2021.

Earlier in 2024, he received his first New Zealand central contract, having taken 31 wickets at 24.41 in the Plunket Shield in the previous season.

Jacob Duffy, who bats and bowls right-handed, was born on 2 August 1994 at Lumsden on New Zealand’s South Island; his older brother Ryan also plays for Otago.
