John Hatfield’s only match for Nottinghamshire was against Surrey at Godalming in 1854, he scored 3 and 1 in his two innings and was not picked again.
His father was also John Hatfield and it is difficult to separate the performances of the two in local matches, a problem not helped by the fact that his brother was Joseph.
John jnr was born in Southwell on 2 March 1831, and played the majority of his cricket in the Minster town; he died in Rugby in July 1889.
