Kevin Mackintosh was born in Surbiton in Surrey on 30 August 1957, and had played a number of Second XI games for his home county before moving to the Midlands to join the playing staff at Trent Bridge for the start of the 1978 season. He played in about half the Championship matches that summer, usually when Bob White was absent, as a promising all-rounder – he batted and bowled right-handed.
His second season was more about Notts Second Eleven when he was identified as one of the main contributors to an unbeaten season in 1979. Mackintosh was not able to make the step up to the first team on a regular basis and returned to The Oval for the 1981 season. Unfortunately for him, a slipped disc in 1983 effectively ended his county cricket.
There is a pleasing symmetry to his career – he played 33 games for each of his counties and for each there were 19 First-Class matches and 14 List-A matches. He also took 15 List-A wickets for both Notts and Surrey.
In his time with Nottinghamshire, he scored 186 First-Class runs at 14.30 and top score of 23no, to which he added 23 wickets at 41.60 and a best return of 4-49; in his List-A games he scored 35 runs, top score 12no and took those 15 wickets 28.80, with 4-26 his best figures.
