Offered a coaching position in Malaysia, Lyndsay Walker decided to leave Trent Bridge at the end of the 1999 season. Walker came to England from New South Wales in the early months of 1992 in order to qualify by residence as a county cricketer.
He was given an extended trial with Notts Seconds that summer and even made a fleeting appearance with the First Eleven in the Scarborough Tetley Bitter Trophy Competition. His first-class debut for Notts came in 1994 v South Africans, keeping wicket in the place of Noon.
In 1995 he joined the full time playing staff and qualified for Championship cricket in 1996. Early that summer he played in six first class games, but then lost his first team place due to injury. 1997 saw him making four first-class appearances and two Sunday League ones.
Whilst coaching school children in the winter of 1997/98 he injured his hand so seriously that, even after several operations, it was obvious he would never be able to play professional cricket again. After the end of his playing career, Walker worked as a development coach with Nottinghamshire for several years. In 2000, he took up a coaching position with the Malaysian Cricket Association, going on to coach the Malaysian national team at the 2001 ICC Trophy in Canada.
