Matt Milnes is a right-arm fast-medium bowler who played for Nottinghamshire until the 2019 season, when he moved to Kent.
He was born on 29 July 1994 in Nottingham and was a pupil at West Bridgford School, subsequently moving on to study at Durham University where he was a member of the university cricket team. He received a Half Palatinate award, similar to gaining a ‘Blue’ at other universities, for competing at a very high level after appearing for the University in a match against Derbyshire.
He was also part of the Nottinghamshire Academy programme and whilst at the Durham University he played for Durham Second XI in 2013 and 2014. Milnes played for Nottinghamshire Second XI in 2016 and, after completing his graduation, signed an initial three-month contract with Notts in June 2017.
After some excellent performances for the Second XI, and there being interest from Durham, he made his debut – signing a one year deal with Nottinghamshire in 2018 and playing six matches for the County during that season. He made exactly 100 runs, at an equally tidy average of 25.00 and a top score of 43; he took 11 wickets at 47.90 with a best return of 4-44.
In September 2018 he was approached by Kent manager Paul Downton and signed a three-year deal with them rather than accept an offer by Nottinghamshire of a one-year extension. He is still currently registered with Kent.
His family remain in Nottingham area.
