Off spinner Michael Field-Buss spent seven seasons on the Nottinghamshire staff between 1989 and 1995.
Born in Imtarfa, Malta on 23 September 1964, Michael Gwyn Field-Buss began his career with Essex in 1982 but had to wait until 1987 for his First-Class debut. He appeared at Chelmsford against the touring Pakistanis in May and a month later made his County Championship debut against Middlesex at Lord’s.
Field-Buss did not feature again for the Essex First Eleven but he impressed for Essex Seconds with both bat and ball in two matches against Notts Seconds in 1988, scoring 52 at Worksop College and then taking 7-74 in the return fixture at Southend. When he was released by Essex at the end of the 1988 season, he immediately joined Nottinghamshire.
Field-Buss played twice for Nottinghamshire in his first season, making his debut for the County against Somerset at Trent Bridge in July. In all he made 36 First-Class appearances for Notts, taking 63 wickets. His best bowling of 6-42 was recorded in May 1993 against Kent at Trent Bridge. Unusually, all 10 Kent second innings wickets fell to spin in this match, with left armer Andy Afford claiming the other four.
Despite the batting skills shown for Essex Seconds at Worksop prior to his signing, Field-Buss made few significant contributions with the bat, scoring just 255 runs for Nottinghamshire, with a top score of 25.
Michael Field-Buss played 40 List-A games for Notts. He took 39 wickets in limited overs fixtures, with his best figures of 4-62 coming in a NatWest Trophy encounter with Worcestershire in 1992.
In each season between 1992 and 1994, Field-Buss played at least eight First-Class matches and regularly in the Sunday League without ever fully establishing himself. He left Nottinghamshire at the end of 1995, having played in just two First-Class matches in that final season.
