Born in Langley Mill on 12 May 1887, Noel Turner was educated at Repton School, being in the Eleven from 1903 to 1905. He was a useful right-hand batsman, scoring mainly to leg, but not as successful as his brother, Tom (Notts 1906-1927). A brilliant goal-keeper, Noel was in the soccer XI at Repton and played for Corinthian Casuals; in 1920 he represented England v Belgium as an amateur international. He is believed to have played in a cricket match between Corinthian Casuals and the Barbarians, the only known cricket game to take place at Twickenham.
Turner’s First-Class debut was for Notts v Essex at Trent Bridge in June 1906, when he played a promising innings of 44. In 1907 he played in about half the Notts fixtures, decidedly his best innings was 73no v Middlesex at Lord’s. He played in three matches in 1908 and five in 1909, his final First-Class match for Notts was v Northamptonshire at Northampton in July 1909. In 23 First-Class matches for Notts, he scored 541 runs@15.90.
Turner played in a First-Class match for Free Foresters v Cambridge University at Fenner’s in 1912. He died very suddenly at Hungerford Park, Berkshire, on 13 June 1941, aged 54 years.
