Towards the end of the 2022 season, Nottinghamshire added to their fast-bowling resources by signing former Warwickshire quick Olly Stone.
The Norwich-born right-armer arrived at Trent Bridge after returning to the international ranks, making appearances for England in South Africa and New Zealand. He has currently played in three Tests, taking wickets in each of them.
Stone has represented his country across all three formats and is capable of being amongst the quickest in the game. He joined the Green and Golds with 150 first-class wickets to his name and a personal best of 8-80 for Warwickshire against Sussex at Edgbaston in 2018.
He also arrived with a difficult recent history with injuries and his first season at Trent Bridge was similarly marred by fitness issues.
Stone played in three warm-up games in March 2023 and was selected for the Championship season opener against Hampshire at Southampton in April when he opened his account with three first innings wickets. He next appeared in May, at home to Lancashire and again took first innings wickets. That was to be his last outing in the Championship for the season - indeed, he was injured during that match and gamely batted as last man in to save the game.
Olly Stone did appear briefly in a T20 Blast home fixture against the Birmingham Bears but bowled just three deliveries before breaking down – Lyndon James completed the over – and his debut season for Notts ended prematurely.
Nottinghamshire is his third First-Class county, he represented Northants before joining Warwickshire, but he started playing for his home county Norfolk, where he was born on 9 October 1993, appearing in matches in the Minor Counties Championship and Trophy competitions.
