Born in East Bridgford on 19 November 1873, Percy Mason moved to Gunthorpe as a boy and resided there for the remainder of his life. He appeared for the XXII Colts in 1894 and 1895, doing enough in the latter match to justify his selection v Yorkshire Colts. He made his First-Class debut for Notts v Lancashire in July 1896. A right-arm fast bowler who later reverted to off spin and a right-hand bat, Mason was one of the original members of the ground staff in 1897, and stayed with club until 1901. In 1897 he played in 14 First-Class matches for Notts and scored 71 v Gloucestershire at Cheltenham College. Although he continued to play for the County until 1901, his only other innings of note was 80 v Derbyshire at Trent Bridge in 1899, when he added 125 for the fifth wicket with John Dixon. His bowling which took many wickets in club cricket, never made its mark in county cricket and in 43 first-class matches for Notts he scored 879 runs @16.27 and took 10 wickets @40.20 with a best of 2-20 v Gloucestershire at Trent Bridge in 1901.
Percy Mason was engaged with Cothred CC in 1894, with Notts Amateurs in 1896, seconded to Mansfield CC from Trent Bridge in 1898, with Bootle CC from 1902 to 1905 and with Birkenhead-based Oxton CC from 1906 to 1914; where he was regarded as an excellent coach. From 1909 to 1912 he played 13 Minor Counties Championship games for Cheshire CC scoring 368 runs @16.72 and took 44 wickets @19.29. He also appeared for Liverpool and District between 1902 and 1907.
A joiner by profession, Mason died on 27 November 1952 in Gunthorpe, aged 79 years.
