Rob Lord came to Trent Bridge mid-way through the 2024 season, initially on a short-term contract but made such an immediate impression that he signed a new two-year deal with Nottinghamshire in September, even before the season ended.
He joined from Cheshire but had played much of his career with his home county, Lancashire – Lord was born on 4 May 2001 in Salford – without quite making the step up to First Eleven cricket.
In 2019, he played under-17 County Cup and County Championship, and a few games in the Second XI Championship, for Lancashire; he also featured in Second XI Trophy matches.
In 2022-23, he played National Counties Trophy and National Counties Twenty20 matches for Cheshire.
A right-handed batter and useful right-arm seamer, Rob Lord made his Nottinghamshire first team debut for The Outlaws in a Metro Bank 50-over cup game against Leicestershire. In his second match, he took 5-45 as The Outlaws beat Surrey.
That performance secured his place in the 50-over team and it was not long before he made his debut in First-Class cricket. Lord played in the final four matches of the County Championship, finishing with 10 wickets at 27.80 and a best return of 3-42 versus Kent.
He had played one earlier game for his new county, contributing a couple of wickets to a demolition of Durham in the Second XI Championship – Notts winning by an innings and 60 runs.
