Academy graduate Sam King signed his first professional contract with Notts in October 2021, at the end of the season in which he made his first team debut.
King, captain of the Academy for the previous two seasons, came on as a concussion substitute for Lyndon James against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens in the Royal London Cup in August. He was one of two debutants to make their first appearance as a ‘sub’ (the other being Dane Schadendorf) in that season.
Sam King, who was named Academy Player of the Season in 2020, captained the Midlands at the ECB Super 4s competition the following year and struck 92 against South and West before scoring fifty for an England Young Lions side in an intra-squad friendly in September.
Samuel Isaac Michael King was born in Nottingham on 12 January 2003 and began playing cricket at Nottingham High School.
In the Autumn of 2021, King, started a Natural Sciences undergraduate degree at Nottingham University, specialising in Chemistry, Earth Science and Ecosystem Environment.
Having played his early club cricket with Gedling Colliery CC, he represented Hucknall CC in the Notts Premier League in 2021. He played three Second XI championship games for Notts in 2021 scoring 40* in the innings victory against Leicestershire at Kibworth in September. In addition he made six appearances in Second XI T20 competition.
Sam King played two more List-A games in 2023 in the Metro Bank 50-over competition; in the second of those he recorded his best first team score of 37 against Kent. In the preceding season he had represented Norfolk in some Minor Counties matches and in 2023 returned to play four T20 games.
