Sam Northeast

Sam Northeast joined Notts in 2021 on a short-term contract following his release from Hampshire – providing useful cover for Haseeb Hameed who had been selected for the England series against India.

The 31-year-old (born 16 October 1989 in Ashford, Kent) was available for the final four matches of the County Championship season. Northeast, who began his career at Kent and subsequently joined Hampshire, had a brief loan spell with Yorkshire in 2021. He had posted 25 centuries in 180 First-Class appearances and last represented England Lions in February 2020. 

Mick Newell commented “With Haseeb Hameed in the England team, the opportunity to add Sam’s experience to our batting line-up is something we believe will benefit our side during the remainder of the season.” 

Northeast made his Notts debut in the innings victory at Taunton, scoring 34, and played in the following match against Lancashire at Trent Bridge where scores of 65 and 13 helped Notts to a 102-run victory. When final test due at Old Trafford Test cancelled, Hameed returned to the Notts team for the match against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl and Northeast’s brief Notts career was over.

In October 2021 it was announced that Northeast had joined Glamorgan on a three-year contract. He established himself in their middle order and in July 2022, became their highest scoring batter of all time.

Playing Leicestershire away, Sam Northeast hit a remarkable 410no, breaking Glamorgan's records and becoming only the fourth player to make a quadruple century in English cricket.
