Stephen Bramhall was born on 26 November 1967 at Warrington in Lancashire. He was a right hand bat and kept wicket.
Bramhall made his debut in county cricket for Cheshire in the 1988 Minor Counties Championship final against Cambridgshire, having played Second XI cricket for Worcestershire prior to that. He played Minor Counties cricket for Cheshire from 1989 to 1991, playing in both the Minor Counties Championship and the MCCA Knockout Trophy.
In the 1990 County Championship Bramhall made his First-Class debut, for Lancashire against Northants, and played one further First-Class match that season, also for Lancashire, against the touring Sri Lankan team.
He signed for Notts in 1992, making his county debut in List-A cricket against Durham in the Sunday League.
Stephen Bramhall played for Nottinghamshire in the 1992 and 1993 seasons, playing ten First-Class and six List-A matches. He left Trent Bridge at the end of the 1993 season having played a total of 12 matches in which he scored 115 runs at an average of 14.37, with a high score of 37no; as wicket keeper he took 19 catches and made six stumpings.
Bramhall returned to his native county of Cheshire for the 1994 season, where he continued to represent them in Minor Counties cricket till 2001. In total he played 84 Minor Counties Championship matches and 24 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches.
He also played List-A cricket upon his return, first representing Cheshire in that format in the 1994 Nat West Trophy against Essex. He represented the county in seven further List-A matches, the last coming against Cornwall in the 2001 Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy. In total, he played 14 List A matches in his career, scoring 55 runs at an average of 7.85, with a high score of 23. Behind the stumps he took 12 catches and made five stumpings.
In 2002 he went on an MCC tour to Kenya and played in two games. Since then he has been a regular player in club leagues in Cheshire. Bramhall led Timperley CC of Altrincham, in what seems to have been his final season, for the 2014 season in Division 1 of the Cheshire League.
