Seamer Toby Pettman signed a two-year contract extension at the end of the 2022 season which would see him remain at Trent Bridge until 2024.

Having honed his sporting and academic skills at Oxford University, Pettman was first spotted by Kevin Shine and Paul Franks at a University Centres of Excellence trial day. The right-armer made seven First-Class appearances whilst at Oxford, taking 33 wickets at 21.15 whilst also earning a first class degree in Classics.

After impressing with his accuracy and bounce, Pettman was invited to spend time with the Notts Second XI, before being offered a pro deal.

In 2021, during his first summer as a professional, the 23-year-old garnered 32 Second XI Championship wickets at 26.25, putting him second in the side’s wicket taking chart.

The right-armer has furthered his development with Nottinghamshire since joining permanently in 2020, finishing 2022 as the country’s third top wicket-taker in the Second XI Championship with 37, at an average of 20.67.

As a 24-year-old, he made his List-A debut for the club in the Royal London Cup in the same season, claiming standout figures of 4-44 against Surrey at Welbeck in his second match.

Pettman also made three LV= Insurance County Championship appearances during respective loan periods with Kent and Derbyshire, taking nine wickets at an average of 27.44.

Standing tall at 6ft 7ins, Toby Pettman was dubbed the ‘Big Friendly Graduate’ by the Trent Bridge media team.

Born in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, on 11 May 1998, Pettman attended Tonbridge School and played for the first XI, the Old Tonbridgians and for local team East Grinstead CC before excelling at Jesus College, Oxford where he captained the first eleven in his final year.  That year, 2020, was the last in which the University matches were granted First-Class status so, along with his loan games, Pettman had already played ten First-Class games.

His First-Class debut for Notts came in the home game versus Hampshire in July 2023 when he took a wicket in each innings, opening the bowling with Brett Hutton.

In the 2024 season, Pettman played in five Metro Bank One-Day Cup matches, taking three wickets, all of them against Sussex at Welbeck. At the end of the season, it was announced that Toby Pettman was moving away from professional cricket and he left the Club to pursue other career options.
