Nottinghamshire strengthened their resources ahead of the 2023 season with the signing of former Yorkshire all-rounder Tom Loten.
Born in York on 8 January 1999, the right arm medium-fast bowler and right-hand bat first appeared in his home county’s Second XI in 2018 after a series of impressive performances in the Yorkshire North Premier League for the county’s academy side.
A debut in the Royal London One-Day Cup arrived in May 2019 when he was selected against Durham at Headingley. Rain denied him the opportunity of either batting or bowling, with the fixture failing to get beyond the early stages.
Later that same year he suffered a similar fate on his red-ball debut, although he was able to score 58 on the opening day, before three days of the match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston were also lost to the weather.
Further chances were limited and Loten began trialling with Notts in the Summer of 2022. He scored a 70 and took a four-for in two matches for the Notts Second XI, impressing sufficiently to be awarded a two-year contract.
Loten joined Notts having made seven First-Class appearances during his Yorkshire days, with personal bests of 58 and 2-31.
In 2023, he made his debut for his new county, playing in seven Metro Bank One-Day Cup games, taking 10 wickets. His best bowling performance was 3-26 away against Leicestershire.
Tom Loten’s top batting performance in 2023 was when he top scored for the Outlaws against Middlesex at Radlett, making 44 at number eight. He added one more List-A game to his Outlaws career in 2024, playing the the away defeat to Glamorgan. At the end of that season, he called time on his pursuit of a career in professional cricket and left the CFlub.
